Novelist Jules Verne's Around the World in Eighty Days was initially published in French in 1872. In the novel, a Londoner named Phileas Fogg wagers £20,000 with his friends at the Reform Club that he and his recently hired French valet Passepartout can travel the world in 80 days. It is widely considered to be one of Jules Verne's best novels.
