The author having observed many historical episodes unfolded and defined critical events in this part of the world in his book. The khilafat Movement, the Non-Co-Operation Movement etc. the stimulating background conditions of the childhood of the author were depicted in the book. The book contains the events which the author witnessed after being born as a British Indian citizen, living for 25 years as Pakistani citizen and thereafter as Bangladeshi citizen. The events fall under three broad categories: (a) 1940-47, from Lahore Resolution to Partition of India; (b) 1947-1971, from Pakistan to emergence of Bangladesh; and (c) 1971-91, the period from emergence of Bangladesh to the adoption of 13th amendment of the Constitution.
