He is James Charles Jack (1877-1918), popularly known as J. C. Jack, ICS. He was Settlement Officer, for the district of Greater Faridpur; also District Magistrate, Bakarganj (present Barishal) during British period. He outshines many of his colleagues in the ICS for his book ‘The Economic Life Of A Bengal District’ (1916), even after a century the radiance of the book has not eroded. It was neither a routine work nor an ordinary presentation. It was really an extra-ordinary research work. Professor Khurshid Solaiman Polly, Principal, Government Teachers’ Training College, Faridpur had collected and edited the century old rare book for interested readers and researchers.
